ARMY - UTAH STATE GUARD - UTAH NATIONAL GUARD
The pictures above were taken when I was 13 yrs of age. My age wasn't brought up until I was just about 16 yrs when a Doctor picked it up when he was reviewing my records. It was just weeks before the war was over when we all were "disbanded. Then requested return of the fire arms and later I found that I was one of few that turned my rifle in.
I never heard much more about this service until I received a call regarding my retirement points. The question was about my age when I enlisted. I explained the story. The Major doing the evaluation of my retirement points, said that his records showed that I was a member of the Utah National guard 1943 to 1945 requiring them to count that time as part of my Military retirement credit and it also made me one of the youngest World War Veterans. However, I lost the seven commissioned (Major) years as they were not Federally Accepted.
